Organic Gishwati Cloud Forest Coffee is a unique single origin and speciality coffee, with a rich, medium-dark roast, which emphasises the well rounded combination of citrus highlights and caramel sweetness.
Source Climate uses capsules made from plant-based materials which makes them biodegradable and ideal for industrial composting.
The coffee rewards over 700 organic farmers for sustainable land management practices.
Gishwati Cloud Forest coffee is grown 60km from the unique ecological hotspot that is Virunga Park and is home to a quarter of the world’s last mountain gorillas and other endangered zebra-looking Okapi. Gishwati used to host a big number of different species of primates such as Chimpanzees and Golden monkeys. However, over recent years, much of the forest was cleared for subsistence farming. Deforestation was so intensive that by 2001 only 6km of native Gishwati forest remained.
The capsules are made from plant-based materials which makes them biodegradable and ideal for industrial composting, as is also the jute bag (check local centres for details).
For every bag of coffee sold, local farmers plant trees to support the forest and their families. All Source coffees are offset using reforestation carbon credits and are 100% traceable to the forest community conservation project. This coffee is not yet a carbon registered project so in the meantime, Source Climate are keeping things in the family by offsetting the Rwandan coffee carbon footprint with the carbon from their Ugandan farmers.
Each box contains 5 fully biodegradable capsules.
